The Uyo Metropolis witnessed a vibrant Road Walk Exercise on Wednesday, June 4th, as Mfon Edet Educational Foundation partnered with the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, NGOs, and stakeholders to advocate against plastic pollution.

OBJECTIVE:
The event aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution, promoting sustainable practices and environmental stewardship ahead of the 2025 World Environment Day with the theme “Our Land, Our Future: End Plastic Pollution.”

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS:
The Road Walk featured:

  1. Passionate participants carrying placards and banners
  2. Picking of trash along the road, demonstrating practical action against pollution
  3. Key stakeholders, including Rt. Hon. Nsikak Ekong, Commissioner of Environment and Mineral Resources, and Jayne Ufot, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Safety, and Environment, leading the charge

KEY MESSAGES:
The event conveyed key messages, including:

  1. Reducing plastic use
  2. Proper waste management
  3. Individual actions for environmental protection

CALL TO ACTION:
The Road Walk concluded with a call to action, urging citizens to join the fight against plastic pollution.
