Over the years, the Nigerian agricultural system is significantly been impacted by Climate Change, with rising temperatures, shifting rainfall patterns, and the heightened frequencies of extreme weather events having impacts on food security and crop productivity. Climate-Smart Crop selection is a significant technique for promoting climate resilience in Nigerian agriculture.

Climate-Smart Crop selection entails selecting crops that are suited to the anticipated climatic conditions of a certain place. It can also help farmers reduce their vulnerability to climate-related shocks.
For example, in areas where Temperatures are rising, farmers can switch to Heat-tolerant crops such as cassava or yams. Consequently, in areas where Drought is becoming more prevalent, farmers can switch to Drought-tolerant crops such as sorghum, millet, or cowpeas.
Similarly, in areas where Rainfall Patterns are changing, farmers can switch to crops that are adapted to the New Rainfall Patterns, such as soybeans or groundnuts and in areas where Flooding is becoming more frequent, farmers can switch to Flood-tolerant crops such as rice, okro or maize.

To promote Climate-Smart Crop selection in Nigeria, several strategies can be employed.
